Configure web search Web Search lets the assistant consult public sources in Ask and Agent. It can answer product questions or find changing technical information. Configure focused sources when you know which vendor documentation should be consulted. Open **Web Search → Add source**. 2. Set a recognizable **Name** and source identifier. 3. Explain **Use for**, for example “Official documentation for the organization's supported backup product.” 4. Optionally describe what to **Return**, such as supported-version requirements and links to relevant documentation. 5. Choose **Specific Domains** or **Entire Web**. 6. For Specific Domains, enter one bare domain per line. Subdomains are included; up to 100 domains are supported. Do not enter a URL path to restrict the search to one page. 7. Review **Advanced settings** for search trigger and trust. 8. Test, save, and enable the source when ready. [![Domain-scoped source settings](https://cdn.document360.io/9da39725-20e5-434f-83a4-d630456099dc/Images/Documentation/ai-agent-guide-15-web-search-settings.png)](https://cdn.document360.io/9da39725-20e5-434f-83a4-d630456099dc/Images/Documentation/ai-agent-guide-15-web-search-settings.png) Use plain purpose/return guidance rather than a developer extraction schema. Specific Domains constrains search scope; it is not the separate installer Trusted download domains list. | Scope | Trust choices | Trigger limits | | --- | --- | --- | | Specific Domains | Trusted, Reference, Unverified | Every new topic, When relevant, or Only when asked | | Entire Web | Unverified only | When relevant or Only when asked; never Every new topic | Web sources cannot be Always trust. A Trusted vendor source can be useful primary documentation for its product, but its contents remain external evidence rather than device facts or execution permission. Unverified web retrieval normally checks whether organization knowledge already fully covers the question before doing unnecessary public research. Explicit requests, requests for fresh information, and designated Trusted/Reference web sources can search directly. A partial KB answer should not be treated as complete coverage. ## Test a source and understand the result **Run test** uses the current settings, saved or unsaved, to perform a real web search. Choose **Quick lookup** for a focused fact or **Research** for deeper investigation. The test does not save the source or send a customer-visible chat answer. [![A real scoped search test with consulted pages](https://cdn.document360.io/9da39725-20e5-434f-83a4-d630456099dc/Images/Documentation/ai-agent-guide-16-web-search-test.png)](https://cdn.document360.io/9da39725-20e5-434f-83a4-d630456099dc/Images/Documentation/ai-agent-guide-16-web-search-test.png) Check the reported queries, consulted pages, findings, links, and caveats. “No result,” “no completed search,” “partial,” “timed out,” and “failed” are different outcomes. Retry deliberately or narrow the query when needed. Web queries are designed around technical terms such as product, model, version, OS, and error code. Keep personal details, customer records, passwords, and private hostnames out of administrator test queries and public-source purpose fields. Search is bounded and adds latency and provider usage. An Every new topic web source can add work on each new issue; do not use broad eager retrieval when a focused on-demand source serves the purpose. Identical successful searches can be reused within the conversation; requesting fresh information can force another search. The sources chip in chat shows the searches and links used. A link in an answer is not a verified installer. Downloading or installing from it still passes the separate provenance, trust, tool-enablement, and approval rules.
